Our
destination
will be close to the Pacific Rim National Park
area (Long Beach), on the west coast of Vancouver Island, quite close to
Tofino and Ucluelet.
We will camp for the long weekend of Labour Day at Toquart Bay Campsite,
Friday 3 Sept - Sunday 5 Sept inclusive. There is a concrete boat launch
and marina right at the campground as well as a kayaking launch area (we
are very close to the Broken Islands Group).
The campground is located 16 km(10 miles) off Hwy 4 down a logging road.
From the campground to downtown Tofino it is 60 km (40 miles),
campground to Ucluelet is 38 km (23 miles) and to the National Park
entrance is about 32 kms (miles). The cost per night per unit is $14, or
$7 for BC seniors. This is a great price, most campsites in the area
start at $30 a night.
Toquart Bay campground is approximately 3 1/2 hours from Nanaimo or 5
hours from Victoria. If you have never taken the Tssawwssen (Vancouver)
ferry to Schwartz Bay (Sidney-Victoria) I highly recommend it. It is the
most scenic of the ferry routes to get to Vancouver Island and it is
cheaper than the American route ferries, but there is no reason not to
take the Vancouver-Victoria ferry one way and the Nanaimo-Vancouver
ferry the other way. We can set a rendezvous point perhaps in either
Victoria or Nanaimo for the Friday as you give me feedback. I think it
is a great place for fishing/boating, but it will be more expensive to
trailer a boat on the ferry.
Perhaps we could figure out who would like to go boating and have those
people chip in to pay towards the ferry cost to someone with a boat?
Perhaps we could have local Vancouver Island TC’ers bring their fishing
boats and invite others on-board with them? Open for discussion. Here is
a link to the campground:
